When we bought this workshop the pit was a falling apart and the cut out where it looks as if it were a window, was some ply holding back dirt.

So we stripped and rebuilt where needed, installed lights, there is portable ventilation units we use, fire extinguisher, covers when not in use and we have lifting equipment that fits on the tracks for the cover.

Early 1.6L fusion with 17s09 recall for the cyl head leaking oil into exhaust causing a “thermal event” in the engine bay. Have done several recalls but have never seen one that actually caught fire. Can’t wait to argue with warranty people over what it’s gounna need.

I was going to [make the newbie do a full wash], but I didn’t want him screwing up the paint or, since the windows don’t seal well, getting a bunch of water in the cab. He was pretty apologetic and had the rest of the shop to clean, so I just let it go.

The issue that caused this is the fact that the truck has a 5" lift, and a bag set for a stock height truck, he was hauling his camper, hit a huge dip, truck bounced, shear upper mount bolts and air line on passenger side, ripped lower mount off drivers side. The lift blocks and rough country shocks gave it away immediately

... first off this a coworkers hand not mine. What happened is we were pushing a newer STI off our chassis dyno, as it was having issues and needed to come off for repairs. The car was caught on the rollers, and he was pushing on the front tire, as the car started to come off the roller and was picking up some momentum, and his 2 fingers got caught in the wheel spoke and got caught between the caliper... what a mess.

Thankfully hes keeping the tips! Both were hanging by a thread when he pulled his fingers out of the wheel

I like the “decided to obey gravity” quip. kind of like “assume room temperature” for dying, or “Player was bored with life” when fragging yourself in Quake.

That said, the cracks about “oil cooled PCM” reminded me that the Cat 3406E heavy truck engines initially used fuel to cool the PCM electronics. it was mounted on the side of the engine block so I guess it needed help; fuel would leave the transfer pump, run through the PCM cooling loop, then go up to the injector galley.

Wow that last one. Someone should go to jail over doing that. Like seriously the police should be dusting that hose clamp for prints.

right?  seems to me it would have actually been easier to just slap a set of brake shoes on than putting that bodge together.

well, since I listen to Steve Lehto and am basically a lawyer now*, I’d assume that the “as-is” assumption for a private sale would be a shield. as in, “the buyer should have had it inspected FIRST.”

*not really, of course.

I’ve noticed a shift away from subtlety in recent months. This used to be a thinking man’s game of diagnosing the issue(s) that saw many of us hunting the comments for possibly the only useful learning done on that entire site. And this one!

Tis’ the season Northern states dread. Freeze/thaw cycle coming to an end just long enough to engage in hard months of repair work . Apparently this person thought a grinder and cutting wheel were a weight carrying bridge too far. Welding triangular supports must have seemed insurmountable.

The buyer should of course have had it inspected first. But if the dealer introduced this, they are definitely not ok. Even if they knew about it they probably can be held liable, as they would have misrepresented the condition of the car. Proving that would be super difficult though. However someone definitely did this on purpose, intentionally disabling a critical safety system, and that feels like it has to be a crime.

I assure you, any shift from subtlety has been completely unintentional. FWIW, t he JRitS sub does have a rule that encourages that the issue being posted about be obvious to the viewer. But I too enjoy the ones that make you think and learn !

Just an observation. Obvious problems do not always come with obvious solutions. BMW selector wheel being a prime example.

Surprisingly little pain, and more surprisingly little blood. A clean miss of the artery, and missed most of the nail bed. Hit the ice water, elevation and bandaging immediately, though I did start shaking from the shock/adrenaline.

Only time it’s hurt has been when the bandage is off. The tiniest breath of air feels like an electrical fire.
